Ingredients

To create a maternity-conscious skin care line, Amalou Skin™ set out to develop products that would effectively address pregnancy related skin issues while avoiding controversial ingredients that are widely found in skin care products today.

The Chemical Controversy

Vitamin A derivatives, such as Acutane, retinoilds, retinol or salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are often used to address blemishes or aging skin issues.  However, concerns about potential links to birth defects make these ingredients questionable for pregnant skin. Commonly used parabens like methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, benzylparaben, and ethylparaben act as preservatives but have been implicated in numerous health concerns such as cancer, allergies and estrogen imbalances. Petrolatum, or petroleum jelly, is often used as a skin softening agent but is possibly linked to breast cancer. Other chemicals that concern activist consumer groups include sodium laureth sulfate and phthalates, which are commonly found in personal care products for lathering, fragrance, and a variety of other uses.

Amalou Skin uses none of the above chemical ingredients.

The Amalou Solution

All Amalou Skin ingredients were carefully chosen to give you peace of mind.

Azelaic Acid: Azelaic acid is an antibacterial agent derived from grain products such as barley, rye and wheat, which is also known to help reduce the appearance of blemishes and melasma. It can help reduce swelling and inflammation by exorcising toxins in the skin. However it does not reduce oil production, so it won't dry skin or cause sensitivity to the sun.

Jojoba Beads: Jojoba Beads are a natural alternative to polyethylene beads. And they don't have sharp edges which can pull or tear at skin. Put into our Wash, they act as a mechanical exfoliant, helping to wipe away layers of dead skin and keep pores clear while also helping to reduce the appearance of pore size.

Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree, which grows in Australia. Tea tree oil is known to have antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties.

Chamomile: Chamomile is a natural antiseptic with calming properties. It helps reduce the appearance of redness in the skin. It also helps to rid pores of impurities and to reduce inflammation.

Peptides: Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 used in conjunction with Palmitoyl-Oligopeptide are peptides that can help boost the growth of connective tissues in the skin and naturally increase the production of collagen in the skin. Increased production of collagen can help skin renew and repair itself.
